Junior Structural Engineer

Job Summary

Your main duties will be structural design engineering. You will be expected to demonstrate leadership and innovation in executing your work. You will be able to tackle a problem independently with supervisory input from lead engineers.

Education Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Science in Civil (Structural) Engineering from a recognized institution.

Responsibilities

  1. Under close supervision, receives “on the job training” through regular design and engineering tasks.
  2. Writes preliminary reports with guidance from more experienced coworkers.
  3. Limited supervision of designers.
  4. Acts according to clearly defined procedures requiring little independent judgement.

Qualifications and Skills

This position requires significant time management capabilities. Excellent communication skills are essential. A solid understanding of computers and MS Office software is necessary, including proficiency in Excel. Experience with other software, such as MathCAD, AutoCAD and/or 3D structural analysis modeling software will be an asset.

Key Knowledge and Experience

Less than 4 years of experience is required for the position. Prior industry experience in engineering, fabrication or construction would be an asset. Candidates will be expected to have taken courses in university for design of structural steel, concrete and foundations. This position will also require the use of 3D structural analysis modeling software and while not mandatory, prior experience using 3D structural analysis modeling software would be beneficial.

Time

We have normal hours of business and every employee will need to work a minimum of 40 hours per week excluding personal time needs (vacation, sick, bereavement, banked time, etc.). In consulting there are always busier times and slower times. When things get busy there will be a requirement to work over time so that we can get the job done and meet our client’s needs.
